HHS staff have worked tirelessly today to ensure that our campus is safe and ready for students to return for on-site instruction tomorrow. Their love for our school is amazing! Also, outside cleanup crews have cleared the debris from campus. #HermitsLead
NOTE: No classes will be held in the Middle School Building at this time. All classes have been relocated, and students should read Mistie’s Message that was sent to their email for this information.

El HHS estará en sesión mañana. Padres, pidan a sus estudiantes que revisen sus correos electrónicos para que sepan a dónde ir para sus clases.

Hermitage High School experienced another devastating blow last night. The roof was blown off the back classes of the middle school building and two trees were blown over in the circle. We ask that people continue to stay off the campus at this time. We have crews currently securing the roof of the building, and we have a crew coming to remove the trees. We are are working to make plans for the coming week, and those will be shared as soon as possible. Please be patient! #HermitsLead

As you may have seen on the news, there has been damage to the middle school building at Hermitage High School. The district is working with Entergy and the city to secure the area. The road going by the softball field and the road behind the gym will be shut off until further notice. Please do not approach the area. Stay safe everyone!

Monday’s baseball game against Lake Village is cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

This is a reminder about the attendance policy for HES. We have students missing school and trying to complete their work remotely under the idea that this excuses them from the absence or does not count as an absence. Even if the student completes the work assigned, the student is still absent. Unfortunately, we have seen an increase in the number of student absences this year (non-COVID related). Regular attendance is critical to the academic success of your child.
Students are allowed a maximum of six excused absences a semester. After two unexcused absences, the district files a FINS petition with the court. Board Policy 4.7 can be found in the handbook.
Absences also incur when students are checked out early from school. Students need to be in school all day. When they leave early, they are missing lessons.
If your student has been tested for COVID, someone in the household has tested for COVID, or the student or someone in the student’s household has a positive COVID test result, you must notify the District POC immediately at (870) 820-4644. With proper documentation from the department of health and regular communication with the District POC, absences as described in this paragraph will not count against the six excused absences allowed by the handbook.
If you ever have questions or concerns about your child’s attendance, please contact the building administrator, Rosalynda Ellis, at (870) 463-8500 or rosalynda.ellis@hermitageschools.org.

HHS students have until Friday to select courses for the coming year. They should have received an email from Mistie McGhee with the registration information. If they can not locate that email, contact the school between 8:00 and 2:30 by Friday. If this is not done this week, we will have to select the courses for the students.

The state of Arkansas has ordered that the district close for the education of our students in our buildings. We will utilize AMI (alternative methods of instruction) days beginning Monday, March 16, 2020 through Friday, March 20, 2020. Our current plan is to return to school on Monday, March 30, 2020, depending upon the guidance from the state of Arkansas. Next week, March 23-27, 2020 is our previously scheduled Spring Break.
During this closure by the state of Arkansas, there will be NO extra-curricular activities, including athletic practices. Buildings and facilities belonging to the Hermitage School District are closed to all guests until further notice. Friday, March 13, 2020 was the end of the 3rd quarter, according to our school calendar. 3rd quarter grades and report cards will not be available until after we return from this state-mandated closure.
Our staff at both buildings has provided, or will provide via Google Classroom, AMI information and will be available for our students via email and Google classroom. (1) staying at home when sick,
(2) washing your hands with soap and water, when available, or use hand sanitizer,
(3) avoiding touching your face with unwashed hands,
(4) avoiding traveling to an area with known cases of COVID-19,
(5) staying 6 feet away from other individuals (social distancing), and
(6) covering your mouth with your elbow if coughing and sneezing.
Our School Nurse, Suzanne Grice, will be available daily from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM if you have medical issues or concerns that you need or want to discuss with her. She may be reached at the elementary school at (870) 463-8500.
Selena Jurado, HSD Migrant Coordinator, will be available daily for those needing Spanish translation services or other assistance. She may be reached at the high school office at (870) 463-2235.

Attention Parents, Students, and Residents:
The Administration of the Hermitage School District is very aware of the threats that have been made that MAY occur in public schools in Arkansas and Kentucky this week. The Little Rock FBI Office made a general awareness announcement based upon information it obtained.
The district will always take threats seriously and will cooperate fully with all law enforcement agencies to keep our students and staff safe. While this threat WAS NOT specific to Hermitage, we will take the necessary steps for safety.
Remember—If you or your students see something, say something!
